  1. In the 70s, this was recasted as the Experience Motel, an adult enterprise with jacuzzi rooms, heart-shaped beds, satin sheets, XXX movies, etc. The sign was augmented rather brilliantly, actually, with the addition of a nonsensical diving girl (the place had no pool by this time!). It was the best of dozens of awesome signs on this boulevard. 30 motels still exist on West Capitol today, but this one is now an empty lot. A casualty of "progressive" reformers who've somewhat succeeded in rescuing West Sac from its seediness, but at the cost of some fantastic googie signage.

  2. No pool? Says who?
I stayed there in the mid-90's and skinny-dipped in the pool with two girls that were also staying there. It was about the only motel WITH a pool on that street.

  3. I was there at the opening of this motel in June, 1959. It was built and operated by the Wulf family. The diving girl was part of the original sign and the motel had a great pool. On the same property was the family's original motel, the El Rancho, which was built probably in the 1930's. Both motels were still in operation in 1970 when I was back in Sacramento. Still owned and operated by the Wulf family.
